Lack opinions

They lack opinions.

I would have thought it means something like "They need opinions or they miss opinions", but I watched this dubbed in German and it was like they are allowed to have an opinion.

Which would be correct?

Do you have a bit more context?

"They do not lack opinions" would mean they have plenty of opinions...

"They lack opinions" to me means they don't have any...

To lack opinions means to have no opinion.

Someone who lacks opinions may may not know enough about a subject to form an opinion, but if you lack opinions in general then simple minded is what you are. How's that for an opinion?

Sounds like a "fully qualified opinion"!

Hahaha, I don't think I've ever met anyone who had absolutely NO opinions whatsoever!
