@David: In any case when you're really hating someone for having something you want.
"Cochino" can be used as an euphemism of "maldito".

La cochina envidia me carcome. Si tan sólo pudiera ser yo el que tuviera un coche nuevo.

Es un cochino envidioso. Rayó la pintura de mi coche nuevo.

Mi amigo entre comillas, me tiene una envidia cochina porque siempre saco mejor notas que el. COchina implica, mucha envidia y a su vez, que desapruebas el acto.
