Pedir syntax

hello

1)
can you explain me please the syntax of pedir?
what are the available syntaxes one can encounter pedir with?

2)
one example, I read:
me pidió que le enseñara = he asked me to teach him

the "que" how is translated actually?

thanks

I think it means something like:

He asked THAT/ He asked me WHETHER / I MIGHT TEACH him.

?pret. of pedir + que + imperfect subjunctive?

Pedir can be used in most situations where you ask (for), request, (place an) order, beg or beseech.

Your translation is better, as it sounds like real English

Not every word of a sentence can be translated. In your example 'que' cannot be translated. Sometimes, 'que' means 'that'

She told me that I had to go
Me dijo que tenía que ir.

Every language has its own syntax and its own structures or even different ways of saying a sentence. I can't translate every word of your example

He asked me to teach him
Él preguntó a mí enseñar a él (literally)
Él me pidió que le enseñara (a correct sentence which follows Spanish syntax)

Real, or current, English doesn't use the subjunctive mood. Therefore, we have no need for the conjunction 'that' and the dependent clause. However, Spanish does require it, and the subjunctive clause it introduces.

I will give you some examples about the word Ask in Spanish.

If you can say (I will ask you my money today) Then you have to say Te pedire mi dinero hoy.

You have to use the word Pedir as you use the word in English is the same.

Others examples.

She asks us more attention during the party.

Ella nos pide mas atencion durante la fiesta.

He asked us the files in the job yesterday.

El nos pidio los documentos en el trabajo ayer.

I hope this can help you.
