A ciencia cierta

Lo lo sé a ciencia cierta.
El claro que significa no lo sé ciertamente, pero quiero saber si es un dicho
común.

Se usa con aquellas cosas que conocemos por haberlas experimentado y/o de las que tenemos evidencia "experimental" de varias fuentes independientes (las opiniones y el cotillerío/chismerío pesan muy poco en esto).

I'd just wanted to add the nuance of that expression in a negative form:

no lo sé a ciencia cierta = tengo indicios, pero no confirmación; me lo han referido, no lo sé de manera directa; no he terminado de analizarlo; tengo muchos elementos, pero algunos de ellos no encajan/embonan; parece eso, pero no me he detenido a analizarlo; parece que sí, pero faltan ciertos elementos que deberían estar; falta confirmación; ... (un largo etcétera)

saber a ciencia cierta >>es más que >> estar seguro más allá de una duda razonable
