Both. It depends what you use to cover it with. If you use a "tapa" (lid) then you use "tapar". If you use a napkin or a plate or anything like that you can use either.

They are both common. You need to learn the difference between the two verbs and then you'll be able to determine which one to use in a particular situation.
Food is covered in different ways. If it's stored in a container that has a lid, use 'tapar'. If it's wrapped, or if you place paper towels over the food to keep insects off of it, use 'cubrir'. That said, the verbs may be switched depending on local use or audience. |
