Abbreviations of days and months

I've been told that lunes, martes, miércoles etc. are not abbreviated as is done in the English manner of Mon., Tues., Wed. etc. And that neither is enero abbreviated in the manner of Jan., febrero like Feb. etc.

Or are they?

(Igual que algunas cantidades,) los nombres de los días y de los meses se prefiere no abreviarlos en textos formales.

· Por medio de la presente, le informamos que no habrá servicio el miércoles 25 de septiembre...
· Le escribo para confirmar su cita del día lunes 30 de octubre a las 5:45 pm.
· Nuestros horarios de servicio son: lunes y martes de 9:00 a 9:05, y viernes de 4:00 a 4:45.


Pero a veces los nombres no caben en los calendarios, horarios o tablas.
Cuando es necesario ahorrar espacio, los he visto abreviados así:

Lun - Mar - Miér - Jue - Vie - Sáb - Dom
Lu - Ma - Mié - Jue - Vie - Sá - Do

Ene - Feb - Mar - Abr - May - Jun - Jul - Ago - Sept/Set - Oct - Nov - Dic

Las abreviaturas casi siempre se ponen con mayúscula inicial:
señor -> Sr.
administración -> Admón.

...y con punto final, pero como en este caso se usan para ahorrar espacio, el punto nunca lo escriben.
