Ayer estuve en la tienda de informática para comprar un escáner nuevo.
Ayer fui a la tienda de informática para comprar un escáner nuevo. Yesterday I went to the computer shop to buy a new scanner. Yesterday I was in the ....... Gracias.

Both are OK, but we use "ayer fui" to state our intention ("para comprar") and "estuve" as raw data or to provide context.
Ayer fui a la tienda de computación para comprar un escáner. (intention) Ayer estuve en la tienda de computación y vi que hay buenas ofertas (raw information) Ayer estaba en la tienda de computación cuando de pronto sonaron las alarmas de incendio y tuvimos que evacuar apresuradamente el centro comercial. (context)
