depending on what type of "indole", it may vary, but the first thing that
comes to mind is "preventative medicine".

hermit

When I saw the thread title, the first thing that came to mind, like hermit, was "preventative medicine". If you can provide a full sample sentence using "curarse en salud" then we could also offer alternative translations to that.

"Curarse en salud" is used when someone who could have done something wrong, announces there could be something wrong before anyone can accuse him/her.

Based on Malila's answer, these phrases are synonymous (can be freely exchanged) and may be a good English translation.

To cover one's bases:
He admitted to one indulgence during the business trip, just to cover his bases.

As a preventive measure, as a precaution:
The doctor checked the patient's heart rhythm, as a precaution.

To be on the safe side:
He made sure all the doors were locked, just to be on the safe side.

I like the "just to be on the safe side"

Another examples

Saludos

Thank you Rusty. The three possible translations meet my demands.
