Grocery

Where I live the common word for grocery store in Spanish is bodega.
I suspect that this is the word commonly used in Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo groceries.

Recently in a book I'm reading I saw that the word ultramarino
was used for grocery. In the dictionary I saw grocery defined as
abacería.

I suppose tienda or almacén can always be used, but what is the word that people from Spanish-speaking countries use for such stores? I suspect that different countries use different words. A I right?

Bodega in Spain is where wine is made and matured.

The local grocery store would be tienda o ultramarinos. You'd find the latter on the sign but people don't generally say they're going to the ultramarinos but to la tienda.

In Mexico, at least with my experiences in the Yucatan, it's called a "súper," short for "súper mercado." In these súper you can find a lot of things other than groceries, and the grocery section is usually labeled on the store map, "abarrotes."

The plural groceries is used in Britain to mean Alimentación

I am going to the supermarket to buy some groceries.

Voy al supermercado para comprar alimentación.

We could also say

I am going to the grocer's to buy groceries
