Encauzamiento

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for September 29, 2009

encauzamiento (masculine noun (el)) — channel. Look up encauzamiento in the dictionary

Para evitar que el río se desbordara, realizarion un encauzamiento de concreto.
They made a concrete channel for the river to keep it from flooding over its banks.

I'd say: para evitar que el río se desbordara, realizaron un cauce de hormigón. Encauzamiento es la acción de encauzar (not a construction). Concrete means "hormigón".

"Concreto" se usa bastante en América.

Is "encauzamiento" related to the word "causeway" in English?

- Muy bien señor, ya excavamos tres kilómetros de la montaña, mañana vamos a poner el hormigón. Próximamente el cauce estará completo

@Bob: no soy Irma, pero tu pregunta debe ser:

¿Cómo va el encauzamiento?
¿Qué tal va el encauzamiento?

"¿Qué pasa con el encauzamiento?" would rather be to ask about problems with the channeling.

Your second sentence is right.

> Latin calciata via, 'paved way'.
