cortarse las venas = to cut/slash/slit one's wrists
para cortarse las venas I believe this phrase is used to describe something depressing, like a depressingly lonely night. Songs that depress you, like a melancholy bachata, can be described as canciones para cortarse las venas. There may also be a "good" slitting of your wrists. That would be akin to saying "this stuff will kill you," when we mean that something's very good. Last edited by Rusty; October 05, 2009 at 09:39 PM. |

Yes Rusty. That's what confused me. The phrase described something positive. I guess it's like "to die for".

No, it means that you don´t want that terrible night to happen again. ( It was so bad)

This other option, I guess is how Spanish people in the US have added its use. And it may be spreading to other places too by youngsters. |

Agree with Chileno and Robin
So heard, the sentence is bad, The night was a nightmare, and I wanted to cut my veins. Other usage I don't know. perhspas it's something like " it was so a good night that I wanted to die with that last memory" but it's not the normal spanish usage, must be youngsters as Chileno/Rusty thinks. Saludos
