"ese registro se le quedó cortó"

I saw this in today's paper and wonder if this is correct Spanish.
I think it means "this register(route or choice) limited her/him."

perfect.

well, on second thoughts, se le quedó corto, in my opinion is quite the opposite, meaning that he was much more capable than that.

entonces "quedó cortó" tiene sentido.

Quedó corto means it wasn't enough.

Remember that ese registro can mean 'that register (book)/ registration (noting something) / record (what was noted) / entry (what was entered in a register) / search (police search)'. As everyone else noted, more context is needed.
