Hello all,
I'm trying to find the best way to explain how to use "vacaciones" (which is plural but also singular). For example....
Mis vacaciones ideales SON or ES?
Can we ever us "vacacion" in the singular form?
Muchas Gracias!

"Mis vacaciones ideales son ....(something, not necesarily a plural)", for instance
"Mis vacaciones ideales son un mes esquiando en Las Leñas."
(Auspició este ejemplo la Secretaría de Turismo de Mendoza)
Buy you may also hear a singular when the speaker clearly think off "las vacaciones" as an only thing:
"Para mí, unas vacaciones ideales es ir todos los días a la playa temprano a la mañana y quedarme haciendo sebo hasta que se pone el sol"
(haciendo sebo = doing nothing at all -such a little activity that body fat increases-)
You might use "vacación", but it's not the common use. I suppose there's a strong idea of "vacaciones" as you being away of every activity you perform routinely.

That's pretty much what I thought. It's just an odd sing/plural structure.
Muchas gracias por tus consejos!

I had never thought about that.. You're right. It's usually a plural word even if it's a single "vacación". :D
The Dictionary of the Royal Academy accepts the word "vacación" but explains that it's more used in the plural.
Therefore it should always be "la vacación es...." (hardly ever used) or "las vacaciones son...."
Of course I agree with aleCcowaN. Very good explanation ;)

Yes the correct form to explain the vacations word is:
I'm taking or enjoying my vacations this weekend.
I will going to take my vacations the next month.
I've understood that the vacation are needed and obligatory and it's couldn't be forbidden for anyone in this world hahaha.
Greetings.
