I'm not sure the best way to translate "la guerra de la Independencia de América/los Estados Unidos".

The war for American Independence.
The war of American Independence.

Hello,

I'm not sure the best way to translate "la guerra de la Independencia de América/los Estados Unidos".

The war for American Independence. :good:
The war of American Independence. :sort of:
The war for the Independence of America. :sort of:
American war for Independence. :not really:
American war of Independence. :not really:

Are all of them correct?

Thank you in advance.

I don't know that any of them are grammatically incorrect ... but I wouldn't use any of those terms. (Although the first sounds best to my ears.)

I would ONLY ever say the "American Revolution" or the "Revolutionary War". It is *understood* that the Revolutionary War was the war for American independence......

I think the phrase "American War of Independence" is the one we used in history lessons. It's also the one which has most hits in BNC.

The most common variations that I typically see here in the U.S. are:

The American Revolutionary War
The American War of Independence
The Revolutionary War
The American Revolution

I usually say either "The Revolutionary War" or "The Revolution".

I don't know what names are common in other English-speaking countries.
