How can we translate plaza in the following context?

El hecho de que eches la solicitud para entrar en el colegio, no te garantiza plaza.

Maybe someone would be interested to know that in some countries "plaza" is not understood with this meaning. They use the word "cupo".

"un cupo en el colegio/universidad" (even on an airplane :butterfly: :earth:).

"plaza" is a square.
