"I'm disappointed in myself" could be used for scratching the car or failing an exam, but not for bad news.

"I'm upset" is definitely the right choice as Perikles already pointed out.

I take that "I am annoyed" may be stronger, but in some contexts "I am annoyed with this car" may work as well. Right?

I would say that "I'm upset" is almost always stronger than "I'm annoyed".

And yes, you could use either for your car. For instance, "I'm annoyed that my car won't start"!
