I would love to know the etymology of the word "felicitaciones" - is its root "feliz"? What does that have to do with the meaning of the word? THANKS!

Felicitación is a noun derived from the verb felicitar. Felicitar comes from Latin felicitare, meaning "make happy". Originally felicitar meant "to make happy", but following a French use, around 1700, it started to mean "Congratulate someone on the happiness he has been blessed with"
