A Nigerian friend has asked me to record some Spanish music ( I mean in Spanish, really) for him. He wants songs that are easy to understand. Any suggestions? Thanks, everybody.

If you mean Spanish from Spain that is easily understood I would select
love ballads sung by one of the Rocíos or Pantoja. If they are interested
in something that has more rhythm. I would suggest supplying them with
the words to the songs so that they can better understand the lyrics.
If you follow my threads you know my opinion of boleros. Most of them are not from Spain, but for people learning Spanish, they are more easily understood than most pop music. Additionally they assist the non-native speaker with the rhythm of the language.

Would your friend entertain songs in Spanish, but not necessarily created or sung by Spanairds? There are many song writers in various countries where Spanish is spoken. Each country seems to have its own music style, exposing its culture, people and ideas. The songs may contain phrases that are not necessarily used in another country.
I think Gloria Estefan has some very nice, clearly enunciated songs in her Mi Tierra album. A few of the songs paint a portrait of life in Cuba. The rhythms are vibrant and very Latin American.

Thanks, Poli and Rusty. I don't mind Spanish or Hispanic as far as the language is Spanish ( I'm explaining horribly). So Colombian, Peruvian, whatever...

I suggest Ricardo Arjona for this purpose. Although many people don't like his music because it is sometimes on the slow side and rather:) repetitive, his songs are all stories and easy to hear. So, they work well for learning vocabulary and phrases. Sorry, about smiley in the middle of the post....

yo sugiero, como Poli, copla o rancheras. Suelen conar una historia, lo que als hace más agradables de escuchar. Incluso Mocedades, o alguna del estilo de Sabina
saludos :D
