Ocupar + verbo?

En un sitio de web leí una frase que no tenía sentido para mi:

"ocupo saber si puedo llevar mi Hijo"

si traduciría esta frase literalmente en Inglés escribiría:

"I occupy to know if I can take my son"

En Inglés la frase arriba no tiene sentido...

¿Que significa esta?

I need to know ...

Continuing the topic of "ocupar", it seems to me through my experiences that you can use this verb in place of "necesitar" in many situations. Is that correct?

This is regional usage, I think, so it's best to only use it when in company of those that will get your drift. When in Rome ....

Another regional use of ocupar is when it translates as 'to use'. Same caveat as before.

I didn`t know that usage, that isn`t in the DRAE, so I agree.
