Hi guys,

I have literally just taken delivery of 'Teach Yourself - Complete Spanish' and it lies unopened on my desk as I type.

My Spanish consists of 'ola' and 'cerveza' so I am a real genuine rookie but I am very eager to learn as much Spanish as I can between now and next May when I will be embarking on some travels in Latin America.

I just stumbled across this terrific looking site while doing a google search so thought I would sign up and say hi!

Hi Jon, Welcome to the forums!

With your book cracked open, you'll soon discover that Spanish has a silent 'h'. The word 'ola' is pronounced the same as 'hola', but they are very different words. Check them out using our dictionary (upper left-hand corner - replace 'Search...' with 'ola' and make sure 'Dictionary' appears in the menu to the right of your search term). After you discover the alphabetically-sorted meanings of 'ola', enter 'hola'.
Now you have three words under your belt. :)
