When you are on friendly terms with a group of women at work whom you have previously addressed as compañeras de trabajo, camaradas etc. and they suddenly recommend you start addressing them as chimoltrufias, are they having you on or just being playful? Looking at the images of La Chimoltrufia online, it strikes me as not a very endearing term of address.

Unfortunately, popular sense of humour has found hilarious quite a few despicable characters created by Chespirito.
Chimoltrufia is one of the worst, if you ask me: illiterate, rude, slovenly, stupid... I don't think any woman would like to be identified with such character, unless you have a close relationship with her and it means something different between you both.

I really don't see how anyone would want you to call them that, and I'd just avoid it even if they asked me to. :)

I sort of thought so myself, but still wonder.... We're not on that good a terms!

Another possibility is that they have given it a particular meaning in their group. But I'd still stay away from using it. :D
