A booby prize is a prize given as a joke to the person who finishes last in a competition.

How would you say "booby prize" in Spanish? :thinking:

I thought about "premio de consolación" as I finish writing my question, but that is an actual prize, i.e., "consolation prize", which is not really a joke...

I thought about "premio naranja" "premio limón" (I don't know if this is something used only in my family, my sisters and I used to give the prize of "tía limón" to the most unfriendly aunt... but that's not even the same...)

I think there were something like some kind of "Oscars" to the worst movies... But still no joy on finding the Spanish expression for these things...

Había un programa de concursos para niños en la televisión mexicana, donde se hacían dos regalos "buenos" (una sala, una recámara, una bicicleta,...) y uno de broma. No es idiom, pero tal vez te sirva. :thinking:

En inglés también se dice "wooden spoon". ¿Hay algún objeto típico que se podría usar como metónimo?

Mmm... reverso gives "cuchara de palo" and "premio de consolación" for "wooden spoon"...

Se me ocurre algo como "la medalla de madera", que veo que se encuentra en la Red... pero no es lo mismo...

Quizás acabe poniendo una paráfrasis como "el premio de guasa" o "el premio de pega" "el premio de broma al peor concursante"... aunque sea un poquito "long-winded" (prolijo y verboso como un oso misterioso...)

A more contemporary term for booby prize is a razzie In fact there is a Razzie Award given to the poorest movies and worst performances. Knowing the force of comtemporary American pop culture I suspect the term Razzie would be understood in some international circles. I also suspect it would be incorporated as it is and not translated to frambuesa.

In a further investigation I found the word pedorreta which is what a Spanish translator came up for Bronx cheer which is another term for a rasberry (not the fruit, the jeer:D)

Premio pedorreta:thinking: or just plain perorreta. I have never heard the term before. Have you?

I heard the term before, but not in this sense...

I see both "Razzies" and "premio pedorreta" are used in the Net...
