A teacher friend of mine who did not speak hardly any Spanish at all said he was talking on the phone with a parent when she said to him "Esperame un ratito." He said he thought she was calling him a "rat." jajajajajajajajaja...
Esperame un rato/ratito=Wait for me for a while/a little while. How many of you new to Spanish did or did not know about this?

Wanna laugh?

Two months after arriving in the use I landed on my third job, a deli, and the mother of the owner, around 80 y.o, used to say to me every morning on that, my first winter in the US: "it's chilly out there, uh!", at first I would says "yes" very enthusiastically, but very soon it got old as she would also tell it to everybody that was working the morning shift...I could hear it from the kitchen "It's chilly out there, uh!" and I would think "What's the big deal that I am from Chile and why does she have to tell everybody, even clients!"
