Today I needed to use the word brittle in Spanish. What would be the best translation-- frágil, quebradizo? ¿Otra palabra?

Gracias :)

frágil :good: (good for general use, something easily broken, shattered, delicate)
quebradizo (good to describe brittle hair, teeth, nails)

osteoporosis/osteopenia. I believe brittle bone disease is an old term not used much anymore.

Brittle bone disease and osteoporosis are as far as I know two different diseases. The first is an inherited genetic condition that manifests itself from childhood. There was an American film, a thriller in which the main character had it, but I've forgotten the title.

Agree with Rusty
M. Night Shyamalan "Unbreakable"/"El protegido" The villain has "osteogenesis imperfecta" (OI and sometimes known as Brittle Bone Disease)
In Spain is called "Huesos de cristal", and the boys and the children affected "niños de cristal"
Also the people affected with "epidermolisis ampollosa congénita" are called "niños de cristal". Those people have not brittle bone, but britte skin. Hugging them is a nightmare.
But I think Elaina must give the best options.
Saludos :D

La palabra oficial para brittle bone disease es Osteogenisis Imperfecta segun ICD9CM (un sistema internacional de clasificar enfermidades). Me parece que dichosamente esa maladía no está muy común.
Sosia beat me to it.

I have been using maladía for years, and nobody ever corrected me.
Now, since you have alerted me, I have checked several dictionaries
and maladía does not exist. I must have made the word up to vary my
my vocabulary. OOPS x 500 imagino.

I looked it up on <snip> and this is what they came up with 1. Word:- brittle
Pronunciation:- [bri-tol]
Meaning(s):- a. Quebradizo, que con facilidad se quiebra (twigs, bones); frágil, precario (peace); crispado (laugh, voice).-----
