I'm a big fan of The Wire. I already knew that Idris Elba is from England but not that Dominic West is a Brit, too.

I was watching this video over and over again, I just can't spot that he leaked his accent. I just wanted to ask you if it's really that noticeable.

He speaks with a British accent. At first he sounds quite American when he says things like point, but later he lets his British show. Future becomes futcha, balls become bawls are just two examples. It's almost a New York accent but with a higher register.
He sounds like a British person who has been living in the US for awhile. If he is supposed to be playing an American, he doesn't pass.

Thank you very much for your response.
He should have adapted a Baltimore dialect for this TV series. Many people who were watching all six seasons claimed that his accent got better with time.

He speaks with a British accent.......If he is supposed to be playing an American, he doesn't pass.I'm English, and I don't know what a British accent is. Anyway, I can't detect anything other than a totally phoney voice with an accent from nowhere. If he's English, he sure has been damaged by something. :D

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0922035/?ref_=sr_1Thanks - no doubt he has trouble hiding a Sheffield accent. :D The was a time when I was able to identify different Yorkshire accents to a particular town in that county, but I doubt that it's possible these days. People trying to hide a Yorkshire accent just don't seem to sound natural somehow.

Baltimore may sound a little too goofy for a drama. I don't wish to offend any tidewater foreros, but that accent may not work well for serious situations--people may think it's a joke.
