To me "peevish" suggests being easily annoyed or irritated, someone who is unusually sensitive to (or impatient witih?) the negative effects of "how cruel life was".


So the best translation is something that implies impatience and a combination of both sadness and anger. #2, #3 and #4 capture parts of that combination, and #1 and #5 are both a little bit off the mark. I don't have a better idea, though.

Peevish tears is an unusual use, that in my opinion doesn't translate well. Even in English it's a bit wierd. I would use rencor contra la crueldad....

Dudo que alguna construcción conservando "lágrimas" suene natural. ¿Qué tal algo del tipo "no más rabietas/chillerías/pataletas/berrinches sobre lo cruel que era la vida"?

Gracias a todos. Me aportan una mejor idea de la que me había formado. Creo que se puede dar el giro, usando "berrinche" con "lágrimas"... ¿Qué les parece esto?
