What is the difference between el ave and el pájaro?
I don't think there is a difference in meaning. You could say that ave is a more technical and more poetic word than pájaro. In everyday speaking is much more common to hear pájaro than ave.
AVE is also the acronym for Alta Velocidad Española (Spanish High Speed Trains).
