This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word (http://daily.tomisimo.org/) for August 5, 2008

barba - feminine noun (la) - beard. Look up barba in the dictionary (http://www.tomisimo.org/dictionary/spanish_english/barba)

A algunas mujeres no les gusta ni barba ni bigote en un hombre.
Some women don't like men with a beard or a mustache.

Poli,
We say barbilla over here.
Daily word,
Being a "lowly machine" you are only able to deal with generalizations, but I have to tell you it depends on the man. I don't usually go for beards, but give me Sean Connery any day...

I've heard.....

barbilla = chin

Also, when you are trying to bribe (in a way) someone....uno le hace la barba...for example:

- Barba Azul (same as in English, but anyway...)
BTW Angela Carter has a beautifully written if somewhat gory version of the Bluebeard story. It is called The Bloody Chamber. Worth reading.

You don't like Sean Connery, Elaina? I didn't like him when he was young, but I think he looks great now.
Alfonso, a holiday in England is great fun but it doesn't work miracles. I'm still the same person, warts and all, as the saying goes.

What's manizer?

Barbudo is a kind of fish that South Americans with primitive plumbing
know well. They refuse to eat barbudo and I won't tell you why but primitive plumbing is a clue.

Alfonso was using his very own personal version of the feminine of womaniser.
You just put me off my dinner, Poli...

Elaina, the point is... Did sosia go to the ball?
Really, you must know I'm married. Next time change "mama" with "esposa" and "ir al baile" with "jugar a cartas con los amigos" and it's a recent example.
Here we say "hacer la pelota" (Gemma can give you all information you need about this subject.)
Saludos :D
