Difference between Dentro vs. Por dentro

I have difficulty understanding the difference between words like 'dentro' and 'por dentro'. Also ones like 'bajo' and 'bajo', 'atras', 'detras', and 'tras', and how to use them. Could someone please explain? Thanks :)

Generally,
dentro = inside
por dentro = 'a deeper' inside
