-I went over to a stall, under whose tent was a pool of water, in which there were many fish. I used a net-like tool, like a paw, to ___ several fish.

I know NET/SCOOP/DRAW, but not the exact verb used to refer to the act of sinking the tool into liquid and obtaining things by vertically pulling our your hand.

Thank you, but can these two verbs fill the blank?

The word to fill in the blank is catch:good: but I don't think it would sound strange to say gather up.
