The use of también

What is the right place to put también in the phrase ?

For example , Should we say (yo tambien) Or (también yo )?

look at this conversation :

Cliente : ¿veine con pan ?
Mesero : Sí, y también ensalada

Why should it be (Sí, y también ensalada) & not (Sí, y ensalada también) ?

Both possibilities are correct; Spanish is often flexible.
Although for reasons of style, I'd prefer the answer to be "Sí, y también con ensalada" or "Sí, y con ensalada también". Adding "con" retakes the way the question was formulated. :)


Small suggestion: Watch the right spelling of "veine". ;)

So , I suggest that there is no certain "correct" way to sort (también) in a specific place in a phrase.

in other words : I may put it in the end or in the the beginning _after Y of course _ , and they would both be grammatically correct putting aside style considerations , did I get that right ?

For this case, yes, you can place it either way.


-- Mi hermano estudia inglés.
-- Yo también. = También yo.

-- Acabo de comprar un coche nuevo.
-- También nosotros tenemos un coche nuevo. = Nosotros también tenemos un coche nuevo.

-- Juan ha viajado a París muchas veces.
-- También mi hermana conoce París. = Mi hermana también conoce París.

in your examples , can i say the below and get away with it ? :D

- nosotros tenemos un coche nuevo también.
- mi hermana conoce París también.

Poli : Yup , I guess you can even put Also in the beginning of a sentence , It would sound awkward but rather correct.

Yes, you can, and although it would be understood in context, "también" would rather be related to the nouns closer to it, not the verb, as in previous examples.

- Mi hermana conoce Marsella, Niza y París también. / ...y también París.
- Tengo un coche viejo y uno nuevo también. / ...y también uno nuevo.
