Spanish Work

Hi everyone ! ¡ Hola !

I had some spanish work to do, i've done it and I wanted someone to check it and give me feedback on how I can improve it : add any complex structures.....

I have to write about 10 points :

1 - A description of yourself (physically, personality etc.);
2 - A description of another member of your family (including your opinion of them);
3 - Talk about how you get on with your family;
4 - A description of your daily routine;
5 - What you do to help around the house;
6 - How your routine would change if you won the lottery;
7 - What do you enjoy doing with your family, why ?
8 - What did you do with your family last night, give your opinion of it;
9 - A description of family celebration that went wrong;
10 - What you are going to don next weekend;

Our teacher told us to develop a few points, I tried to but we have to all the points with a maximum of 300 words.

My work :



1 Soy alto, tengo pelo negro y ojos marrones. Mis amigos dicen que soy agradable pero me enfado muy rápidamente.
2 Mucha gente dice que mi hermano menor Ashir parece a mí, me llevo bien conél y le amo sin embargo a veces me molesta.
3 Mel levo bien con toda mi familia, a veces tengo argumentos con mi hermano, pero siempre resolver cualquier problema.
4 Todos los días, me levanto a las siete, y me preparo para ir a la escuela,la escuela es muy aburrida pero es muy importante. Cuando la escuelatermina a las tres y media,me voy a mi casa y hago mis deberes sitengo, o a veces salgo con mis amigos para jugar al cricket.
5 Realmenteno me ayuda en la casa hoy en día porque tengo dos exámenes próximomes, así que tengo querevisar en orden a obtener buenas notas, quierosacar buenas notas porque yo creo que si tengo buenas notas será capaz de conseguir un buen trabajo en el futuro.
6 Siganara la lotería, no iríaa la escuela y comenzaría probablemente, unanueva y innovadora negocio.
7 Comouna familia, nos gusta ver partidos de cricket, porque encantamos elcricket.
8 Ayerpor la noche, nos fuimos a un restaurante chino, y nos fuimos acenar, me encantó la comida, y el tiempo de la familia que teníamos.
9 Hace dos años, fui a la boda de mi prima, en Italia, fue durante el verano, pero llovió durante dos días consecutivos, la boda todavía tuvo lugar pero todo la gente estaba decepcionado debido a lascondiciones meteorológicas. ¡ Qué rollo !
10 El próximo fin de semana, voy a jugar un partido de cricket para miclub local, toda mi familia estará allí para apoyarme y conesperanza, verme ganar.

2 Mucha gente dice que mi hermano menor Ashir *** (This construction needs a pronominal particle complementing the verb) parece a mí, me llevo bien conél y le (This should be a direct object pronoun; however, some Spaniards use IO pronouns in these situations; if this is what your teacher has taught you, leave it as it is) amo *** (Punctuation missing) sin embargo a veces me molesta.
3 Mel levo bien con toda mi familia, (Check punctuation signs) a veces tengo argumentos (Check your dictionary; "argumento" is a set of statements, not a fight) con mi hermano, pero siempre resolver (This verb needs to be conjugated) cualquier problema.
4 Todos los días, me levanto a las siete, y me preparo para ir a la escuela, (Check punctuation signs) la escuela es muy aburrida pero es muy importante. Cuando la escuelatermina *** (Punctuation missing) a las tres y media,me voy a mi casa y hago mis deberes *** (Punctuation missing) sitengo, o a veces salgo con mis amigos para jugar al cricket.
5 Realmenteno me ayuda (You're saying "he/she doesn't help me", you need the right conjugation) en la casa hoy en día (This expression means "currently", "nowadays"; but you're talking about a couple of days; try rewording for a more immediate idea.) porque tengo dos exámenes próximomes (Check your vocabulary), así que tengo querevisar en orden a obtener buenas notas, quierosacar buenas notas porque yo creo que si tengo buenas notas será (Check conjugation; you're saying "he/she will be") capaz de conseguir un buen trabajo en el futuro.
6 Siganara la lotería, no iríaa la escuela y comenzaría probablemente, unanueva y (For reasons of euphony, if the word following "y" starts with an "i", "y" must be changed for "e") innovadora negocio (Check your previous adjectives; they must agree with the gender of the word "negocio").
7 Comouna (Get rid of the article; in English it's necessary, but in Spanish articles introduce a particularity that is not needed in this kind of sentences) familia, nos gusta ver partidos de cricket, porque encantamos (Check conjugation you're saying "we enchant the cricket", which is not what you mean. Remember that this verb must be constructed as the verb "gustar".) elcricket.
8 Ayerpor la noche, nos (Please notice that adding the pronominal particle to the verb "ir" adds an emphasis that might not be needed here) fuimos a un restaurante chino, y nos fuimos acenar, (Check punctuation) me encantó la comida, (no Oxford comma in Spanish) y el tiempo de la familia (This is a calque from "family time" in English, but this is not how we express this idea in Spanish; try rewording. If you need more help, let me know) que teníamos (Two issues here: verbal tense is not good; you are talking about an occasion that has ended and that happened only once, so you need preterite, not imperfect. Secondly, "we had" is a tricky expression when you have to translate the idea into Spanish. "Tener tiempo" is to have time to do some activity; but to spend time with someone is better expressed with the verb "pasar").
9 Hace dos años, fui a la boda de mi prima, en Italia, fue durante el verano, pero llovió durante dos días consecutivos, (Check punctuation) la boda todavía ("Todavía" sounds awkward; try rewording with another expression. Check these: "sin embargo", "de todas formas", "de todos modos", "aún así", "de cualquier manera", "a pesar de todo"...) tuvo lugar pero todo la gente estaba decepcionado (The adjective must agree with the gender of the word "gente") debido a lascondiciones meteorológicas. ¡ Qué rollo !
10 El próximo fin de semana, voy a jugar un partido de cricket para miclub local, toda mi familia estará allí para apoyarme y conesperanza, verme ganar.

I've corrected all the mistakes except some that I don't understand.....

2 I'm not sure what a pronominal particle is ?
5 “hoy en dia” = nowadays, well thats what I intended to say. Does the sentence not make sense ? I don't help around the house nowadays?

“ el proximo mes = next month what vocabulary ?
8 El tiempo de la familia, I'm not sure what else I could say? tiempo familiar ?


I corrected everything else but something I didn't understand what the check punctuation and punctuation missing errors and the Oxford comma error, are commas not used in spanish ? Excuse my ignorance


My teacher gave us some criterias to get the best mark :

“Fully relevant and detailed response to the task. Sound ability to convey information clearly, express and explain ideas and points of view. Well organised structure.
Wide variety of appropriate vocabulary and structures. More complex sentences are handled with confidence and verb tenses are used successfully.
Largely accurate, although there may still be some errors especially in attempts at more complex sentences. Verbs and tense formations are secure. “ I dont know how she expects us to give opinions when the max words are 300 in 10 different points but anyways........

Am i respecting these criterias? what could I add to make it even better ? A better vocabulary ?

Some answers and more hints below:

2 Mucha gente dice que mi hermano menor Ashir parece (Pronominal particles are those like the "se" in "irse", that change with the pronoun when the verb is conjugated. In this case, you have to use the verb "parecerse" instead of "parecer") a mí, me llevo bien con él y lo amo *** (You need to make a pause between both sentences; a semicolon or a period) sin embargo *** (I suggest a comma here) a veces me molesta.
3 Me llevo bien con toda mi familia, (This is a sentence by itself, so a longer pause than a comma is needed) a veces tengo peleos (Look out, the right word is feminine) con mi hermano, pero siempre resolvemos cualquier problema.
4 Todos los días, me levanto a las siete, y me preparo para ir a la escuela, (Check previous note on punctuation) la escuela es muy aburrida pero es muy importante. Cuando la escuela termina *** (A comma would be good here, to insert "a las tres y media" between some sort of parenthesis) a las tres y media, me voy a mi casa y hago mis deberes *** (This is more a question of style, but I suggest you insert a comma here) si tengo, o a veces salgo con mis amigos para jugar al cricket.
5 Realmente no me ayudo (Look out, "me ayudo" means that you don't help yourself; get rid of the "me", so the verb actually says that you're not helping at home these days) en la casa hoy en día ("Hoy en día" gives an idea of modern times in contrast to former older days, so we use it in sentences like "hoy en día, la gente ya no envía cartas de papel", when "today" is opposed to a time in the past when people used to write letters instead of emails. So I suggest you to use "en estos días", "últimamente", "ahora"...) porque tengo dos exámenes el próximo mes :good: (Oh, these two words were together, so I read "próximomes" as a wrong version of "próximos". There's nothing else to correct here) :D, así que tengo que revisar en orden a obtener buenas notas,quiero *** (also, use an alternative to comma) sacar buenas notas porque yo creo que si tengo buenas notas seré capaz de conseguir un buen trabajo en el futuro.
6 Si ganara la lotería, no iría a la escuela y comenzaría probablemente, una nueva e innovadora negocia (Heads up: the gender agreement makes the adjectives agree with the noun, not the contrary, so these words must be masculine; "negocia", as a noun, is not Spanish.)
7 Como familia, nos gusta ver partidos de cricket, porque gustamos (You conjugated right the verb "encantar" in the next sentence, check what you did there) el cricket.
8 Ayer por la noche, fuimos a un restaurante chino, y fuimos a cenar, (Again, there's a more suitable punctuation mark to be inserted here) me encantó la comida, (You have a list of things you liked, so there is no comma before "y") y el tiempo de la familia ("El tiempo de la familia" in Spanish means the units of time the family can spend doing something, like in "el tiempo de la familia es importante para el desarrollo de los niños". Your proposal of "tiempo familiar" is good. :thumbsup: I had in mind a more standard expression, but it had to change the structure like this: "...y el tiempo que pasamos en familia".)
9 Hace dos años, fui a la boda de mi prima, en Italia, (For reasons of style, I'd insert a semicolon here, but you can leave the comma) fue durante el verano, pero llovió durante dos días consecutivos, (Check previous notes) la boda aùn (Our accent is tilted to the other side) ;) asi (There's an accent missing here) tuvo lugar pero todo (Gender agreement must be with "gente") la gente estaba decepcionada debido a las condiciones meteorológicas. ¡ Qué rollo ! (There's no space between exclamation or question marks and the words.



It's hard to make more complex paragraphs with a limited number of words for so many topics, so I think your work is good; your sentences are mostly correct and they correspond to the criteria you were given. You used the right verbal tenses most of the time, which is one of the main difficulties for answering the questions; your main problems are natural and I think you'll master them in no time. :)

Thank you! I have studied English for many years. :)
May 5th is rather a celebration of the Mexicans living in the USA, as a way to consolidate their identity. In Mexico, it used to be an important holiday, since it marks a defeat of the French invaders by the Mexican Army; however, as historians started to underline that it was not a significant victory, that the next battle was won by the French, the date lost luster and it's not even an official holiday anymore. :)


You're almost there; a couple of details and it's done.
I don't suggest you to try using "impressive" words if you don't know them already. It's usually better to master simple, clear pieces of language before moving on to more complex structures or words. You're on the right path. :)

Cuando la escuela termina, (a las tres y media) (If you write the parenthesis as a punctuation mark, then the comma goes after the parenthesis. If you write two commas --one after "termina" and the other after "media"--, you don't need a parenthesis.) me voy a mi casa y hago mis deberes, si tengo, o a veces salgo con mis amigos para jugar al cricket.

Not "nos gustamos".

Notice that when you say "me gusta", "me" corresponds to "yo" (the one who's talking) and "gusta" corresponds to the thing that you like. So, the thing that you like is the subject of the sentence and "yo" is the indirect object. This is why you say "me gusta una cosa" and "me gustan muchas cosas".

Then:

Me gusta la música.
Me gusta escribir poesía.
Me gustan los pájaros.

¿Te gusta mi vestido nuevo?
Me dijeron que te gusta aprender español.
¿Te gustan las flores?

A Juan le gusta tu motocicleta.
A María le gusta ver la televisión.
A mi hermano le gustan los deportes.

Si les gusta esta pulsera, les puedo enseñar a hacer una igual.
¿A ustedes les gusta ver películas?
Ya sé que a ustedes les gustan los chocolates, pero no pueden comer más.

Not "nos gustamos".
