If they are both correct, what's the difference in meaning?

I like hope more than hopes, but I think both are correct. They have the same meaning.

As a side note, I do believe the name is Hans Andersen. The name Han would be highly unusual, although of course possible.

"Han" and "Hans" both exist as personal (first) names in the US according to the US census of 2000. I found a source based on that census that claims that "Hans" (24000+ people) is at least 12 times more common than "Han" (1600+ people).
