Hey there!

I'm Laura, a web developer in Canada.
I started teaching myself Spanish a few years ago and absolutely loved it, but didn't stick with it.

Starting this winter, I plan to travel around while I work (the perks of working online!) with my first destination being Mexico. So, here I am! Unfortunately I don't remember any Spanish that I learned the first round. Actually I'm not even sure where to start!

But...hello!

Welcome to forums, Laura!

Start by reading a novel in Spanish, aloud, preferably one you have already read in English and enjoyed. This will expose you to Spanish that you may very well hear in the streets of Mexico. Reading will increase your knowledge of how the language works and should prompt a lot of questions.

Augment the reading with listening to Spanish spoken by native speakers. This will hone your listening skills and will help you to feel even more confident about your grasp of the sounds of the language and its cadence.

If you can find someone to speak to, by all means do so.

Hey there Rusty, thanks so much for the friendly welcome!

Your advice has been a huge help already. I've started reading the news in Spanish, which is really helping with my pronunciation (and I need all the help I can get, my accent is horrible!).
