Parent is obviously padre, but what would be the best way to translate parent when it's used in a figurative sense, such as parent category? I've provisionally translated it as Categroría Superior, but I don't know if that's the best choice. :thinking:

Found these. Don't know if they work.
Categoría Padre = Parent Category
Subcategoría = Subcategory
Categoría Hijo = Subcategory
Categoría Superior = Highest Category

Categoria superior makes sense to me. I guess you could also use: Categoria Principal o categoria central ??

So you actually did find "categoría padre"- to me that sounds like a translation from English, but it might work anyway.
Thanks to the both of you.

Logically parent is Padre in Spanish, but I don't know that you did mean to say with category, Could you do tell me more information about it.?

Logically parent is Padre in Spanish, but I don't know that you did mean to say with category, Could you do tell me more information about it.?
For example:
Animals (top level category)
Dogs - Cats - Birds (subcategories)
German Shepherd Bengal Blue Jay
Rottweiler Manx Sparrow
Golden Retriever Persian Longhair Eagle
Poodle Vulture
OwlGerman Shepard is a subcategory of Dogs and Dogs is its parent category. Dogs is a subcategory of Animals, Animals is the parent category for Dogs. So parent category means one category above the current category in the hierarchy.
