I am preparing for a trip to Mexico next week, and in case there's ants or other bugs in the bed with me I would like to be able to describe that in Spanish, and ask to be moved to another room.

I know that "ants" is hormigas, for instance. Could I say:

Las hormigas están en la cama por la noche. Otro cuarto por favor.

(Thank you)

Most hotels have English speaking staff. It's unlikely to find ants in bed--chinches maybe:eek:, pero si por las moscas you can say:
Encontré hormigas in mi cama ¿ hay otra habitación disponible?

I am unfamiliar with the words Encontré, habitación and disponible since my Spanish is limited. Could I say "Las hormigas están en la cama por la noche. Otro cuarto por favor."

(By the way we have slept in beds with the big tan biting ants in Mexico before, and the manager spoke English. We'll be staying at a different hotel this time where they don't really like to speak English.)

habitación de hotel = cuarto de hotel = hotel room

disponible = available

Hay hormigas en la cama. (There are ants in the bed.)
¿Habrá otra habitación? (Would you have another room?)

Remember that all the h's are silent.

Habitacion has five syllables. Maybe I'm on the wrong website since I'm looking for very simple ways to say things, preferably with no more than two or three syllables because I am not fluent in Spanish. Thanks anyway

You're welcome!

What I offered is very common Spanish, employing concise, complete sentences that precisely express your complaint and desire.

You can substitute 'otro cuarto' for 'otra habitación' if you wish.

The phrasing we've suggested for 'another room' has only one more syllable (due to the fact that the final vowel of 'otra' is always blended with the beginning vowel sound of 'habitación'):
/oh trah bee tah ción/ versus /oh troh kwar toh/

De nada. Crucemos los dedos para que todo salga bien y que la habitación que consigues no tenga ningún tipo de bichos. :)
