Atracón/tragón

Describing how I ate too much at a meal I said Me dí un atracón but my friend said it should be .. .. .. tragón. Why is that, since I thought tragón has more to do with drinking than eating?

atracón = the act of gorging
tragón = the person who eats too much all the time

In my country we prefer "darse una panzada" to "darse un atracón", and we have slang terms for tragón: morfón or manyulón.

"Tragar" means to swallow, but in slang it means to eat much. "Tragón" is the adjective for the person who eats a lot. I have never heard it used for drinking (that would be simply "borracho" for me).

Por mis partes, Chile, tragar se usa también para decir beber.
A uno que bebe tanta cerveza, vino y licores dicen que es bueno "pa'l trago". No lo llaman "tragón" , más bien que "le gusta el trago".

Le gusta tanto el trago, es tan bueno pa'l trago, que se emborracha a menudo

Por lo que a comida se refiere, se usa glotón o comilón.

En México, el verbo se usa exclusivamente para comer, aunque sí decimos "un trago" para una porción de líquido que se bebe.
