I was told (but didn't understand the specific reasons) that:

por mi culpa and es mi culpa

Have slightly different meanings.


If you someone cares to explain I'd be grateful.

One means it's my fault. The other means because of the bad thing I did.

Por me culpa = it's my fault

Es mi culpa = because of the bad thing I did.

Correct? It seems the reverse sounds correct.

Es mi culpa que ... = I am to blame for ...

Por mi culpa ... = Because of me (this bad thing happened) / It's my fault (this happened)

OK, I assume "por" is used as "because" (to translate in English).

Now I get it.
