I think the USE will come, but as Hopper says, we need 30 years more.
I suppose a Texan thinks the people from Alaska are a little crazy, for example.
It's the same here.
greetings :D

I really understand what you're saying. One of the things about Europe that fascinates me the variety of culture and temperment, art and language and history. It's an astounding crazy quilt, and I lament that the individual character of European nations is compromised by the EU, but I think that the unification of Europe part of human social evolution. Here in the United States (and you can just about say the same thing for Canada as well) we are much more homogenized, and I suppose that's one of the things that has made us so strong. The same language is spoken from sea to sea. It's true that there are regional differences but they are much less pronounced than they are in Europe.

Often speaking in generalities helps us categorize things. I think that's how we learn things. It's is fun and natural, but it's stunting and even dangerous if it's seen as the only rule. It should be just one of many judgement criteria.

They first appeared as a definition of hell, based each nationality's worst (supposed) characteristics. I think the originals were: -

Police - German
Army - French
Cooks - British
Waiters - Irish
Trains - Spanish (actually Spanish trains are quite good!)
Fashion Designers - Dutch
Comedians - Swedish
Taxi Drivers - Italian

Can't remember the rest.

I never have thought that Europe is the heaven, but I know something, I know that Europe is the country of my dreams.

Let's enlarge the joke??? In heaven and hell...

What would the Americans do?

And the Spanish?

The Canadians?

Exciting, I love this sense of humour :)

Plannet Hopper. The questions is if the Mexican people should love the heaven with their states fulled of garbage jejej, I don't know but I feel that my country is very dirty most when there are drugs.

:D I loved it.
It made the people around here wonder what I was laughing at. :o

It's a shame I'm so bad with stereotypes... otherwise I'd make a proposal for an "Americas" extension of the joke. ;)

I hope the USE never happens.

BTW, true Texans would prefer to return to being a separate sovereign nation as opposed to being attached to the lunacy of the USA as a whole.

Viva La República de Texas, 1836-1845!

For those who were unaware, before becoming a state, Texas was an independent nation who fought Mexico for the territory :) And no, it's not yours, it's ours :D (Mexico didn't really want Texas until settlers came in!)

Richard Thompson told this joke during one of his concerts and it was hilarious... he told it in a slightly different way, though, but with the same concept.

It's a very good one indeed!!!! but someone not knowing about how things are in Europe( Cooks,Mechanics,Cops&lovers :) ) wouldn't understand i think.

It's all about clichés that some people create over others, with a little or a lot of truth in them.

I find it really funny

And understanding a joke in English gives me hope and force to continue learning.

Thanks!

(But I have to say that I would loved (me habría encantado?) that spanish people had a role :p)
