I would define una cucharada de as a tablespoon full of rather than a spoonful of.

Sí, estás en lo correcto, pero... depende del contexto. If it's in a recipe, or if by context you are talking about precise cooking measurements, then yes, cucharada = tablespoon and cucharadita = teaspoon. But a second meaning of cucharada is simply spoonful. :)
