Hi,

...una expresión que ella no recordaba haberle visto hasta entonces.

I can't figure out whether haberle is the only way to place le in a sentence like this. Can one move le someplace else?

Since the only verb in the noun clause is haber, and it's in the infinitive form, the pronoun can only be present where it is. Just FYI, the pronoun should be 'lo', but 'le' is accepted in Spain.

Thanks! Le vs lo is my constant pain. Half of the time it's pretty "obvious", the rest is a hopeless and clueless gray zone :worried:

In this example, I think the "le" is referring to the person who made the expression that she saw, that she thinks she had never seen before on that person.

I agree with Tomísimo.
"No recordaba haberle visto esa expresión antes" -> "Le" is an indirect object pronoun for the person that makes a newly displayed expression, and this expression is the direct object in the sentence.
