Ok, I need to say "we were walking back to the mall." The closest I can get is
Nosotros estabamos caminando al ____.
Any help?

Hey Johnny,
I'm not a native speaker of Spanish, but I think you could say,
"Estábamos regresando el centro comercial."
"Estábamos regresando al 'mall'."
I've heard both centro comercial and mall, like in English but with a Latin Flare. Also, instead of "regresando" you could say "volviendo"- both mean "returning".
Hope this helps!

"Estábamos regresando el centro comercial."
Sounds good to me.

Careful, "al", not "el". "al" is a contraction of "a el" (to the).
I'd say "Estábamos volviendo al centro comercial" or "Íbamos de vuelta al centro comercial".
"Mall" is not used here.

The only place I've heard "mall" used in Spanish (pronouned "mol") was in San José, Costa Rica. It's probably not a very widespread usage.

Yeah, living in Texas I hear a lot of "Tex-Mex" Spanish. Sometimes it's easier and sometimes just plain old confusing!!
