This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word (http://daily.tomisimo.org/) for December 31, 2008

estría - feminine noun (la) - stretch mark. Look up estría in the dictionary (http://www.tomisimo.org/dictionary/spanish_english/estria)

Las estrías no son exclusivas de las mujeres, los hombres también pueden tenerlas.
Women aren't the only ones who get stretch marks, men can have them too.

Hm......:thinking:

estrías = wrinkles

I've only heard that word used when someone is talking about stretch marks. For wrinkles, I've heard or used "arrugas".

Stretch marks occur when skin is stretched faster than the body can accomodate, like during pregnancy.
Wrinkles are nearly the opposite. They mostly occur when skin elasticity is lessened, like what happens because of aging.
