I want to make you happy.
Quiero hacerte feliz.
Quiero alegrarte.
Me parecen más o menos iguales.
Como siempre, gracias.

Tienes razón. Son iguales las dos.

I'd say there is a little nuance. Since "feliz" is more than "alegre", saying "quiero hacerte feliz" is more often used as a promise to make a difference in the life of someone. But "quiero alegrarte" implies a lighter intention to improve someone's mood for the moment.
"Quiero hacerte feliz" may be said when you're getting married, for example.
"Quiero alegrarte" may be said when someone is sad and you want them to smile. :)
