Hi,

On Context Reverso stumbled upon this:

Uses on barley and wheat were described in the dossier.

En el expediente se describían usos en la cebada y el trigo.

Is it a typo? If not, is this use of en idiomatic to uso, or is there a bit of grammar to it?

I don't see anything wrong here, but had to invent a context to make it work.

If I apply a chemical (pesticide) on barley and wheat, I'm hoping to curb the havoc pests can wreak on my crop. How to do this is described as use or uses. The preposition 'on' makes perfect sense, since the chemical is applied topically.

The Spanish translation also makes sense, even though it was changed to the active voice instead of the passive voice that was used in English.

I agree with Rusty.

If you say "usos en el trigo", then it's something that is used on the wheat, like a pesticide or a fertilizer.
If you say "usos del trigo", then it's the wheat you're using with a purpose.
