I think that in theses sentences would be translate of other way, because I don't make sence for me the word Traer, I think that is more common the word Tomar or llevar, then I suppose, I should post these new choses.
He took the children from the mother.
El se llevo a los ninos desde su madre.
He took the children to the mother.
El trajo a los ninos de su madre.
I don't know, if this is really the that you want to say, but if you can be more specific with the sentence or if you have other way to say the same, we could translate better the sentence of sundry forms.

He took the children from the mother.
Él le quitó los niños a la madre.
He took the children to the mother.
Él le trajó los niños a la madre.
While there are other ways to say pretty much everything, your sentences are grammatically fine, in my opinion.
One thing to note, is you would only use traer in the second example if you are at the same location as the mother when you utter the sentence. Otherwise you need to use llevar.
