Hola a todos,

In a scene in the movie Carne de Horca Juan Pablo talks Vargas into telling him where he can find Lucero. Vargas tells him and then one of Lucero's accomplices shoots Vargas dead through a window. Juan Pablo shoots back and rushes after the killer.

Then some woman (at 24.19) screams something three times and I'm not sure what exactly she screams. What I hear is José, but that seems a bit strange to me because throughout the movie everyone refers to this man as Vargas (for example, between 24.26 and 24.33 he is referred to as Vargas two times - "Ha matado a Vargas").

The scene in question starts at 24.06.

Thank you.

He is addressed by his family name by everyone except for his wife, who shouts "¡Jóse, Jósé!" in a typical Andalusian way, and his relatives.

For respect, family names are used together with "tú" by people of higher rank who are themselves addressed using "usted"

And among the popular classes family names were used because first names used to be far too common.

As my best friend Paco, born in Galicia, said "There, you shout Paco and half the men turn their heads. You shout Manolo, the other half does"
