I can understand quite a bit of Spanish when my mum talks to me, but when i try to reply in Spanish myself, the words just don't come out properly. I've been trying to relearn it for years, and I still end up answering in English more often than I'd like.

For those of you who've had this problem, what actually helped you start speaking more comfortably? Was it practicing conversations, talking to family, or just giving it more time?

Sing! Music is a fun way to put words together. :D
Watch TV or videos in Spanish and try repeating what they say.

Also, don't try to be perfect. Stay confident speak as much as you like. People around you will help you when you'll need it. :)

I don't know if there are many Spanish speaking immigrants with no English skills in the Welsh capital, but if you find a non-English speaking person that you are comfortable with, you will be obliged to speak Spanish. This may get you out of your communication rut. Perhaps you can find someone on internet platforms.
