But ... "oirte", even though it means "to hear you", would apply to the receipt of an e-mail? I got an e-mail from someone who doesn't speak much English and I want to write back to her with some Spanish ......

Any suggestion you've been given works, but the saber de ti one is quite common. All mean It's good to hear from you.

"Saber" means "to know", but it also means "to find out" and "to hear" in the preterit tense or when used as an infinitive.

Supe que estabas enferma. = I heard (found out) you were sick.
Sabía que estabas enferma. = I knew you were sick.

Supe de él. = I heard about/of/from him.
Es bueno saber de tí. = It's good to hear from/about you.

I saw that the sentences at Spanish translate to English are very distinct in itself built.

I know that the meaning of the words in both languages can be very different. But sometimes the Spanish is very distinct to the English in all the sentences.
