La guerra es un mal necesario.
Guerras son un mal necesario.
Would that help to make up your mind?

I like the idea of the sentence composite of this way.
La guerra es un mal inecesario.

without it = sin ella
Without is a preposition, and it is the object of the preposition. It is also a pronoun, standing in for the word war. Applying these concepts to Spanish, the preposition is sin and the object pronoun is ella. It is femenine because the word it stands for (la guerra) is femenine.
